I saw this tree in full blossom every day on Hadleigh Road on the way to work and it captured my imagination. I stopped one bank holiday morning, when there was no traffic, and took some reference photos, but by then the blossom was almost over so I had to rely on my memory.
There was a terrible storm over Ipswich, with towering dark clouds but sunshine coming from the side. A bright rainbow hung over Ipswich that day, like a sign of forgiveness. I nearly crashed the car peering up out of the car window.
This painting was selected for the Royal Society of British Artists' Annual Exhibition 2016. It was also selected for the 'Open Call' exhibition at Ipswich Borough Council Art Gallery, September 2016.
